As noted in our WWE SmackDown! taping results spoilers, there was a major angle played out at the top of the taping featuring the World Heavyweight Champion, Mark Henry, coming out to the ring with crutches and addressing the injury he suffered at Sunday’s Survivor Series at the hands of The Big Show. He claimed that he would be fighting through his leg injury.
The Big Show then came out to the ring, which resulted in the two getting into a verbal altercation and Show knocking out Henry with a punch. The current Money in the Bank briefcase holder, Daniel Bryan, then came out to the ring and cashed in his briefcase, winning the World Heavyweight Championship.
However, the SmackDown! General Manager, Teddy Long, came out to the ring and said that Bryan wasn’t eligible to cash in his briefcase because Henry “wasn’t cleared to compete” in the match. He then stripped Bryan of the title and handed it back to Henry. He then set up a number one contendership match for tonight featuring Cody Rhodes, Wade Barrett, Randy Orton, and Bryan in a four-way match. The winner will then go on to face Henry for the title during next week’s live SmackDown! broadcast on Tuesday.
Below is a photo of Bryan’s short-lived title run, which the crowd popped for hard:
