TNA Wrestling Confirms iMPACT! Taping In Fayetteville

TNA Wrestling released the following press release today, confirming that they will be taping an episode of iMPACT! from Fayetteville, North Carolina on February 24th. Of note, they mention that the show will be taped on Thursday, 2/24 at 7PM EST, two hours before the show would be broadcasted with a two-hour delay. Here’s the official PR:

For just the second time in company history, Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling will film its weekly Spike TV program “TNA iMPACT!” (Thursdays 9 p.m. ET/PT) on the road when it invades the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on Thursday, February 24, starting at 7 p.m. ET.

“TNA iMPACT” is TNA Wrestling’s flagship television program, airing in over 100 countries worldwide and featuring the biggest superstars in professional wrestling, including Jeff Hardy, Rob Van Dam, Mr. Anderson, Kurt Angle, Jeff Jarrett, AJ Styles and Matt Hardy, and legendary icons Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair.

February 24 will mark just the second time “TNA iMPACT!” has been filmed outside of “The iMPACT Zone” at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, and the first “iMPACT!” on the road since 2008.

“The Ft. Bragg and Fayetteville community have always been great hosts for our previous non-televised TNA events. “When we decided to film ‘iMPACT!” outside of Universal Studios, we wanted to find a city that was close to the military and had a reputation for great fans. Fayetteville is perfect.”

Tickets for “TNA iMPACT!” go on sale Friday, January 21, at and all Ticket Master locations. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the Crown Coliseum box office (1960 Coliseum Drive, Fayetteville, NC).

Mike’s slate: It is interesting to note that even though they are taping the show on the same night that it will be broadcasted on Spike TV, they are, as of now anyway, not taping the show live. In terms of television, February 24th is the last day of sweeps. If Spike is adamant about really competing with other cable networks, they may insist that TNA tapes the show live to potentially get extra viewers.

However, I can see a few reasons as to why they won’t be taping the show live. First off, if you watched the initial live episodes in the beginning of 2010, in terms of production, the live broadcasted episodes from the iMPACT! zone were considered a disaster with its lead announcers being cut off as they were heading to commercial break, awkward camera angles, and simply not being ready for live TV. They are still having troubles adjusting to live television on their pay-per-views, as evidenced the last few months during their live shows. Broadcasting television, and pacing it with adverts is just that much tougher. They may be taping it a couple of hours before the broadcast airs nationally in order to to perfect the airing and not make their product look amateur, but that may just be my opinion.
