As noted earlier today, wrestling legend “Macho Man” Randy Savage died this morning at 10AM local time in the Tampa, Florida area where he reportedly suffered a heart attack while behind the wheel of a car. As a result, he lost control of the the Jeep he was driving and it went over the raised concrete median divider, crossed over the eastbound lanes and hit a tree head-on. Savage subsequently died shortly afterward, but his wife, who was also in the car, only suffered minor injuries.

WWE, his former employer for which he worked for from 1985-1994, issued the following statement today, confirming the news: “WWE is saddened to learn of the passing of one of the greatest Superstars of his time, Randy Poffo, a.k.a. Randy “Macho Man” Savage. Poffo was under contract with WWE from 1985 to 1993 and held both the WWE and Intercontinental Championships. Our sincerest condolences go out to his family and friends. We wish a speedy recovery to his wife Lynn. Poffo will be greatly missed by WWE and his fans.”
